Thus, Riot Games has gone ahead and detailed some of the changes players can expect with Valorant’s upcoming Act 2 update. In its latest update article, the publisher-developer talks about what it will be doing to shake up the game’s Competitive Mode, and a feature coming to Valorant called “Act Ranks.”

Act Ranks are badges that appear the player card to show that individual’s ability in Valorant’s Competitive Mode. They record a player’s wins and change accordingly. Once the Act ends, the badge will finalize itself on the player’s card like a trophy, showing off their victories for that Act. The player will then receive a new Act Rank for the present Act.

“Current” Act Ranks will fill up with small, color-coded triangles every time a player wins a competitive Valorant match. The color of the triangles will reflect the rank the player was at when they won the match, so if a player entered and won a match while at gold rank, they’ll get a gold triangle. Higher ranked triangles will always push out the lowest-ranked ones once the Act Rank badge becomes full.

Finalized Act Ranks will display the rank color of the player’s “proven skill” or their top nine best-ranked matches. So if a player scores nine Diamond rank wins, but they falter afterward and end up back at Platnium, then the Act Rank will only take into account the Diamond wins. The finalized Act Rank will also display the number of wins a player got in total throughout that specific Act.

Beyond the Act Rank, Valorant’s Act 2 will also give everyone’s rank a sort of soft reset. Riot Games will require players to take part in three different placement games that will pair them with players of similar skill. Afterward, Valorant’s ranking system will place people slightly lower than what they earned so it can put them in games it believes they’ll win in.

So far, these are the only changes that Riot announced are coming to Valorant with the next Act. However, it has said that it wants to add new Valorant Agents with each new Act. The first Act ends on August 4, 2020, so the wait to find out won’t be much longer.
