Players will need to block and dodge attacks like they would in Dark Souls, and, after completing a mission, players get a rank for their performance similar to the system in Devil May Cry. Despite these similarities, Valkyrie Elysium provides its own unique spin on action RPG combat. This guide will show players how they can get S-Rank on missions, the highest possible rank.

How to Get S-Rank on Missions
When it comes to Missions and Side Quests in Valkyrie Elysium, the main thing that determines rank at the end is how well players do from start to finish, just like in the Devil May Cry series. Valkyrie Elysium is well tuned so that players do not have to play perfectly to get an S-Rank, but there are several factors that they should keep in mind if they want to get as many S-Ranks as possible. When completing a mission, the following things are taken into account to determine rank:
Time Items Used Damage Taken Divine Arts Used Einherjar Summoned Successful Technical Defends Kills Max Combo Count Deaths
Some factors are scored more heavily than others. Kills, Divine Arts, and Successful Technical Defends will help boost the score, but speed is far more important when it comes to getting a good rank. The faster a Mission or Side Quest is completed, the higher the score next to Time. Then there are three factors that will subtract from the final score. These three factors are Item use, Deaths, and Damage Taken.
So, for Valkyrie Elysium players looking to achieve S-Rank on Missions, they will want to avoid taking damage as much as possible. Having only Light damage taken instead of Medium damage can potentially make all the difference between getting A-Rank or S-Rank. By doing this, players will not need to use items to heal themselves and that will also help to improve their score. A demo of Valkyrie Elysium is available, so players can check this out before purchasing the game if they so desire.
Finally, the last thing that Valkyrie Elysium players will need to do to get S-Rank is avoid dying. Dying has a significant penalty, so players will need to take time and potentially do the Mission a few times in a row in order to get S-Rank.
Is There a Reward For Getting S-Rank?
Unfortunately, the rank given at the end of a mission is purely for bragging rights. There are no items or unique cosmetic rewards for getting S-Rank on one or more missions. However, there is an Achievement/Trophy to obtain S-Rank on all Missions and Side Quests in the game. So, aside from doing it for the sake of it, there aren’t any rewards for S-Rank unless players happen to be Achievement/Trophy hunters.
Valkyrie Elysium is available now on PS4 and PS5. It will be available for PC on November 11th.
