The initial Xbox and Bethesda showcase from Summer Game Fest had several big trailers for games like Redfall, High on Life, and Diablo 4, while games like Persona 5 will be coming to Xbox for the first time and others will be added onto. The second Xbox and Bethesda appearance during Summer Game Fest features an expanded look at many of the reveals like more information about Microsoft Flight Simulator, As Dusk Falls, and Fall Guys. Beyond a deeper dive with games Xbox fans are already familiar with, some announcements like the release of Valheim on Xbox Game Pass joined the Xbox and Bethesda extended show.

Iron Gate AB confirmed the Xbox and Game Pass release of Valheim with a new trailer created using in-game footage that teases world bosses, different biomes, resource gathering, building, and more. The Valheim video also shows Vikings group up to celebrate and take on some of the game’s greatest challenges together which is what over 16,000 Valheim early access concurrent players have been doing on PC since 2021. The conclusion of the recent Valheim trailer confirms the survival game for PC Game Pass this Fall, while Xbox and Xbox Game Pass will get the game in Spring 2023, presumably having more time for the studio to port it to the consoles.
While Valheim has reached over 200,000 total players on PC, console players have anticipated a Valheim port for over a year, and the Xbox release may just be the first. Because Valheim players typically explore with others, the addition of the survival game to PC Game Pass may increase the overall playerbase as Steam users make recommendations to Game Pass subscribers. Valheim’s arrival to Xbox Game Pass has it joining the extensive library of survival games on the service already like Conan Exiles, Minecraft, Ark: Survival Evolved, Grounded, and more.
Because most, if not all, of the Xbox and Bethesda showcase game reveals are for games releasing in the next 12-months, Valheim continues the trend if it’s able to meet the Spring 2023 window. It’s currently unclear if the Xbox release will be the early access version of Valheim that players have already been exploring or if the game’s full release will be ready for the Spring 2023 window. Although Game Pass PC subscribers may be able to play Valheim with their experienced friends when it releases, Xbox fans will likely all have to start from scratch given that it will be the first console port.
Valheim is available now for PC and will come to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in Spring 2023.
