One travel ability isn’t going to be enough to survive the onslaught. She rushes players faster than they can run away and, if they’re not careful, will stun and end them in a single combo of hits. Those who are prepared to find her and end in terror in V Rising have been warned.
Preparing For And Locating The Ferocious Bear
Players who have learned to fast travel will find a waygate very close to the Bear’s Den, where the Ferocious Bear resides. This is in the Farbane Woods, on the eastern border of the map. To get inside, there is a ramp that goes south, leading to the mouth of the cave, where a pacing V Blood boss awaits.

Because this fight takes place in a cave, feel free to do this fight at any time of day (though Blood Moons are always helpful). It’s highly recommended to use Veil of Chaos, the travel ability that drops from Clive the Firestarter, for an extra dodge. Any shield ability will also work wonders as several moments will come up where a hit is unlikely to be evaded.
It’s a comically bad idea to go against the bear in a straight-up melee fight, so the crossbow’s range or slasher’s evasion can be helpful. Still, whatever weapon the player is comfortable with should be fine, just know that it won’t be feasible to get off a flurry of strikes.
Ferocious Bear’s Moves And Strategy
Phase One
As players might expect, the Ferocious Bear has very limited ranged capabilities. She will run up to players to attack them. If she gets on her hind legs, back out of the circle and evade her slam to the ground.
This move will send rocks tumbling down from the ceiling in waves, using the center of the slam location as an origin. Melee fighters will want to immediately dash back toward the bear after the initial slam to dodge these rocks while ranged fighters should strafe the falling debris.
The other move during this phase is a simple swipe. The bear will get up close and then raise only one paw. If backpedaling at maximum speed, it’s possible to dodge this, but if the player was slowed to attack or cast a spell, to any degree, it will require a shield or travel ability to escape.
Phase Two
Phase two adds two more moves (the other two will still be used regularly) and both are more deadly than either move in phase one. The bear will briefly be surrounded by a faint, orange dome. After a brief moment, the Ferocious Bear will roar, boosting her speed and attack speed while drastically decreasing the movement speed of any nearby attackers.
Unlike before, her attacks when she has this buff can no longer be dodged by running and will require travel abilities and shields to deal with.
When the Ferocious Bear gets into melee range and lunches back onto her hindquarters, she is about to charge forward. Any player hit will be stunned. If the bear is buffed at this time, she can easily unleash a flurry of attacks that will kill the vampire before getting out of the stun, so be careful.
